Jim Spisak and his daughter, Jamie, were recently featured in The Dallas Morning News.
Jim Spisak, 59, and Jamie Spisak, 28, both left careers in corporate America to launch a business of their own. Last month the father-daughter duo will opened their Experimac franchise location at 4709 W. Parker Rd., in Plano.
Experimac is a one-of-a-kind retail storefront concept that specializes in sales of pre-owned Apple® computers and devices; repair of laptops, phones and tablets; trade-ins of existing devices; system updates; and sales of accessories.
Such life-changing career decisions were once considered fraught with uncertainty, but in today’s economy, the reaction is much more likely to be, “Good for you! I wish I was doing the same.”
And apparently, more people are doing just that. According to a Harris Poll conducted in April of 1,553 unemployed people, nearly one-fifth had quit their jobs due to an improved economy and labor market. Staffing firm Express Employment Professionals commissioned the poll.
It might come as a surprise, but each month almost three million Americans voluntarily leave their jobs. According to the most recent figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 2.7 million “voluntary quits” in September. The number of quits has held steady between 2.7 million and 2.8 million for the past 13 months after increasing steadily since the end of the recession.
“It’s a great feeling to say that we are going to be running a family business after both my daughter and I came out of corporate America,” Spisak said.

Experimac in Cape Coral, FL
Kevin Lynn recently opened a new Experimac franchise in Cape Coral, FL. His store opening was recently featured in the Cape Coral Daily Breeze.
Just before the holidays, Kevin Lynn brought Experimac, a new retail and repair store for Apple products, to Cape Coral. Experimac refreshes pre-owned iMac computers, MacBook laptops, iPhone and iPad mobile devices, ensures that the products are in perfect working condition and sells them at a much reduced price compared to new Apple products.
Everything it sells is warrantied for 90 days and if Experimac can’t fix it, it will replace it. The business also repairs and upgrades Apple products, including the need for mobile device screen repair.
While sales and repairs are a core part of the business, it also purchases pre-owned Apple products and takes them as trade-ins towards other products.
Accessories are also a major part of the business. From phone and tablet cases, to laptop cases, adaptors and cables, Experimac has most of what the average customer needs.
Through Experimac, located at 1031 Santa Barbara Blvd., Lynn is bringing the newest concept from industry veteran United Franchise Group to serve customers throughout the Cape Coral area, including Fort Myers, Punta Gorda, Lehigh Acres, Estero Island, Pine Island.
Experimac is the latest addition to the United Franchise Group family of brands, joining a team with over 30 years of franchise experience.

Experimac Shiloh, IL
Scott Markovich of Experimac Shiloh, IL was recently featured in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The article talks about Scott his move from retail and restaurant management, to an Experimac Franchisee.
Scott Markovich is bringing the rapidly expanding concept Experimac to Illinois in early November. His Shiloh location will serve Southern Illinois and the St. Louis area. Providing pre-owned computers and devices; repair and upgrade services for laptops, phones, and tablets; trade-ins of existing devices; and sales of accessories and software for Apple® devices, Experimac make available heavily in demand devices at costs far below their retail value.
Markovich, a retail and restaurant manager for more than 15 years sought a career change that would grant him the autonomy to be his own boss. Recognizing the demand for Apple® devices yet aware that a large percentage of the population could not afford what they cost when purchased new, Markovich identified a new career direction. But it wasn’t until he came upon the new concept Experimac that he had known he had found an ironclad opportunity to transfer that insight into a career.
“The demand for Apple® devices has never been greater but because of the demand the costs to obtain them at retail are often beyond the reach of most consumers,” said Markovich. “By making them available used, more people can gain access to them than ever before. Experimac makes this possible, backed by a reputation of excellence.”
The newest addition to the United Franchise Group family of brands, a system with over 30 years of franchise experience, Experimac has grown precipitously since the opening of the first franchised location in March. For Markovich, Experimac provides an opportunity to create a legacy for his family.

Why Did You Start This Business?
I was looking for a business in retirement with minimal initial investment and something that interested my son, Kevin, and me.
Where Did You Get The Idea?
I began looking at franchises on the Internet and found Experimac by United Franchise Group.
What Was The Biggest Hurdle You Had To Overcome?
Agreeing with myself that I was too young to retire.
Is This Your First Business?
Yes. I am just retiring from John Deere as an engineering and quality manager after 37 1/2 years. My son wants to run a business and I want to help him get started as part of my retirement plan.
To Whom Did You Go For The Advice?
Experimac Franchise and the United Franchise Group people have been great teachers and support from business assessment to real estate locations.
Barry & Tara Barnett were recently featured in East Cobber, in the article they talk about Experimac Kennesaw, the new Experimac location they are opening in Kennesaw, GA.
When Barry Barnett and his wife, Tara, decided to go into business together, they didn’t want to own just any business. They started by looking at different options for buying a franchise and settled on Experimac Kennesaw.
“As we began to work with a franchise broker (Find Your Franchise, Inc.), Experimac was one of the first brands introduced after understanding our backgrounds and interests,” said Barry Barnett. “We were hesitant to decide so quickly, so we continued to look at about a dozen other brands. We kept coming back to Experimac!”
Experimac is a company that buys and sells pre-owned Apple® products and offers repair services. No doubt, the fact that Barnett’s family has owned numerous Apple products helped them make their decision.
“Over the years, our family has owned iMacs, MacBook Air laptops, iPhones, iPads, iPods, etc.,” said Barnett. “So we are absolutely believers in the product.”
They were also drawn to Experimac’s business model.
“Experimac is such a compelling business model focused on growing ownership of Apple® products and providing existing owners an alternative Apple® experience,” said Barnett. “We offer a one-stop home for Apple® quality and value.”
Barnett sees the growing prevalence of technology as something that can only help him in his new business venture.
“It’s amazing how technology is expanding in and out of the classroom,” said Barnett. “The pre-owned options we have in stock will absolutely meet the needs of students as well as adults for personal and professional needs.”
The benefit to owning a franchise is the franchise owners can focus on building relationships in their community while leveraging the franchisor’s core support capabilities. That focus on community is exactly what Barnett plans to bring to the table.

Experimac will soon be opening in the Quad Cities. The following article features Joe King, who will soon be opening an Experimac in Illinois, with his son.
Joe King is not one of the many who quit his soul-sucking corporate job to start his own business. On the contrary, King loved his career.
“I am just retiring from John Deere as an Engineering and Quality manager after 37 years,” says King. “I had an excellent career with Deere and wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
Instead, King’s focus in buying the franchise is on his son.
“My son wants to run a business and I want to help him get started as part of my retirement plan,” says King. “I can’t fish all the time.”
King’s solution was to become a franchisee of, Experimac, the new concept that provides pre-owned computers and devices; repair and upgrade services for laptops, phones and tablets; trade-ins of existing devices; and sales of accessories and software for Apple®devices.
King says his recent move to Apple products helped convince him this was an industry he wanted to work in.
“I am amazed at the simplicity and connectedness of the products and the apps and programs,” says King. “And the translation between Windows products now is seamless.”
King has noticed he’s not the only fan of Apple’s products.
“Many people like Apple products and operating systems in spite of their premium price,” says King. “We think the idea of selling pre-owned, refurbished and upgraded Apple products will be a big hit with students and others who want Apple but don’t want to pay the premium.”
These days, everyone is on the lookout for a good deal, but not everyone wants to sacrifice quality in favor of a bargain. With Experimac, they won’t have to.
